DOMESTIC HOUSING

SEMESTER 2 : YEAR 1
The Domestic Housing program was located in Millbay Plymouth, the aim was to create accommodation for 3 different social groups - The Elderly, PTSD suffers and Student Nurses. The aim of the project is to create a social system that can support itself whilst encouraging the interaction  of those who may otherwise be isolated from main stream society. The program is nested in a the group masterplan "Konethasek Kevreyth" (Cornish for: social space), which focused upon these three categories of people throughout the site.
The development of this system further progressed into
creating a green roof and more outside areas for people to use when they do not wish to stay within their personal unit or in the communal cafe areas, the use of this green roof pushed me to include many natural materials as the
cladding but that also fit into the surrounding environment.  Leading me on to creating a series of facade studies to gain an understanding of how the different materials work together and sit withing the larger picture.3
During the design process I slowly developed an understanding for the space that my site held the best way to create and maintain views of Plymouth Sound.  Through these experiments the idea of a tiered system from back to front worked the best, this idea stuck throughout the development of the program.

As the group narrative progressed it was broken down into 4 stages before being combined to form one cohesive urban framework strategy, as a group community interaction and the creation of a micro community that could all support one another were at the forefront of out urban framework. Therefore public realm and social systems were the two most important changes to our strategy.
